The 20 year sentence of Marissa Alexander is an injustice to all victims of domestic violence who fight back to defend their lives. So many views that blame or revictimize victims put this young mother in prison. She did not kill anyone! She fired a warning shot to stop her abusive husband from attacking her. There was a history of domestic violence. Marissa had a Protective Order against this abusive man because he beat her so severely while she was pregnant that she was hospitalized. Angela Corey said "most people believe her husband was choking her and she reached over and got a gun and fired a warning shot" That is BS!! I have not seen a single article reflecting that! She is a victim's worst nightmare.

DeleteUnfortunately, Florida's clemency guidelines do not allow applications for pardons until an inmate has been released for 10 years. The only option under clemency is commutation. Please join Marissa's blog and yahoo group for official updates from the family.
